...you wouldn't buy a game just because everyone else has.

I thought everyone bought it because I did..

I buy games that nobody else has, or games I can play with my wife. So I did buy Agricola and Race for the Galaxy...

All the other games I like I'll only be able to play at game days, with people who already own them! :P

I actually feel sorry I didn't buy this one at Gen Con. My better half would be all about playing the 'gric.

I bought this game because I read descriptions of its gameplay and it sounded fun to me.

...you would never pay $50 or more for a board game.

I crossed that line in the 70s when I got Fire in the East.

I never made that oath, so now I'm a proud owner of Twilight Imperium (with the expansion), and Indonesia.

I made that oath and broke it, I own Twilight Imperium, the expansions, and Descent! I guess I just had to have them, now if I could only get someone to play them with me...

One word: Inflation.

Unless you stop buying games altogether, everyone will break this one sooner or later.

I swore this, but only because I don't have a problem with (me) stealing (other people's stuff)

I have no problem breaking this rule on a regular basis. These are the games in my collection that I have paid at least $50 for - and their are others in my collection that I received in trade that retail for $50, also.

Agricola
BattleLore
Shogun
Descent: Journeys in the Dark
Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization
Tide of Iron

Oh, and the first game, Agricola, I bought strictly due to the hype, so I have therefore violated the first swearing, too.

I broke that when I bought Star Fleet Battles in the 80s
